Volvo S80 2008

As mentioned on my earlier blog, some pinhead smashed my sweet and loaded Pacifica 05. So, we shopped for a replacement and we had this shortlist:

2008 MB C350 (starts at $36k)
2008 M35 Infiniti (starts at $35k)

2008 Volvo S80 (starts at $42k)

2008 BMW 535i (starts at $45k)

So why S80?
  • Safety Period. My family is safer in Volvo cars. We have a XC90 and we're very satisfied with it
  • No frills, No gimmicks. Simple and sophisticated.
  • Interior is awesome. Wood panels are real wood. Minimalist design.
  • Bigger than any of the cars mentioned above. C350 is for couples without kids. M35 is roomy but cramped. 535i is roomy too.
  • Quite inside, smooth lines. The rear is captivating!
  • BLIS - Blindspot Information System. Useful especially when changing lanes.
  • Volvo reliability.

Here is a nice review:

I'm back again!

t's been 3 months since my last post. I will try to put in more stuff from now on. So, what's up with me?
  • Wrecked my Pacifica 05 - actually, a driver from Bedord on his cellphone travelling at 70mph smashed my rear. The impact was quite strong but the Pacifica's shell and reinforced body was strong enough to sustain an incredibly small damage. The insurer decided to pay me instead of fixing it. I bought a Volvo 2008 S80. This car is huge, gracious, classy and quite. I will post my personal review on this soon.
  • Job is pretty good even though the US economy is faltering. The company is continuously hiring.
  • We had a guest from Manila for 3 days. He's the CIO of a bank and he spent 3 chilly days in Dallas. We went to the 6th Floor Museum, Shopping and ate so much food!
  • Kids were accepted to the LAC (Lakeside Aquatic Center) Team back in November. This is one of the premier swim team in the DFW area. They absolutely love it. I'll post pictures later.
  • Spent Thanksgiving at Tito Francis' House and Debbie's House. Pictures will be posted later
  • Invited 30 of my friends to a Manny Pacquiao - Oscar Dela Hoya Watching Party at home. Manny destroyed Oscar in 8 round TKO! Wow!!! Pictures later.
  • Bought some cool stuff - PS3, xBox360 for Ia, Insignia 50 Plasma (and installed it on our Game Room's wall), Sennheiser HD555, cool PS3 controllers, Acer Aspire One, Nikon P60 and other cool gadgets
I promise again to post more frequently :)

Update from vegas

Pictures from the last 2 days will be posted later. Wifi sucks in here in the hotel we're staying.

Drive from phoenix to vegas was exceptionally stunning. We avoided the freeways and took smaller highways in order to see and feel the heart and soul of the southwest. We saw miles and miles of rock mountains, deserts, Joshua trees, and pure nature. We had a great time at the massive hoover dam. Pictures will be posted later.

We finally arrived in vegas after almost 300 miles and 6 hours. We had dinner at a popular filipino chain restaurant (jollibee) and some shopping at best buy for a new GPS ;)

We will spend the day at the adventuredom then lunch at chowking!

Shopping around phoenix

Currently around 108 right now. It's dry so it's ok. Phoenix is nice and much like north Dallas in many ways. Palm trees and vegetation are so uniquely phoenix.

Pre-reunion party tonight with some Fil-am friends.

Kids with me in one of the malls here.

@ Cracker Barrel in Abilene, TX

Fw: At last phoenix!

Had the most challenging drive in my lifetime so far! We left DFW around 11am yesterday July 20. After just 200 miles, we stopped by abilene to have lunch at cracker barrel for good old American cuisine. Then another fuel pump in odessa Texas. On the way to phoenix, we had a very scenic drive across Texas. Saw hundreds of huge windmills and amazing rock hills and mountains. Then dinner at ihop in el paso. El paso is so nice at night! We never had a chance to get around because I had to take the hardest stretch of my drive. 6 more hours thru the night in dust storms and swarm of insects. It was so difficult to drive for 18hours! The last 100 miles was the most difficult.

After 18 hours, 3 hefty meals, $160 gas, and my butt so sore, we finally arrived in our hotel around 3am mountain time. The hotel night manager was kind enough to reward us a suite for the price of a regular room!

4 hours of sleep and 2 hour time difference is not good. Will eat and update this mobile Blog later.

Sorry for the typos. BB pearl's keyboard is so cramped!

Nikon P80: Perfect Cam for the Road Trip

10MegaPixels, 18x Optical Zoom, wide-angle and compact camera. Unfortunately, some of the pics I'll be posting directly to this blog will be coming from my Pearl 2MegaPixel Cameraphone :( I know it's mediocre but it's the fastest way to blog via my mobile phone.
